Doitsu koi refers to a scaleless form of koi with thick, leathery skin. The smoothness of the skin creates clean, defined edges (Kiwa) in the color pattern, giving the koi a more refined appearance. The colors of Doitsu koi also tend to be brighter and more saturated.
