Standard Koi - Ki Utsuri |
Ki Utsuri is a yellow koi with bands of black, usually in a stepped pattern down the back. This is more of an uncommon variety, but a favorite at Cliffords, and one we intend to focus on for breeding. Some may describe it as having a tiger striped appearance. Bird lovers may also be reminded of a Baltimore Oriole, which is pictured on our home page. Cliffords has already been the first to produce Ginrin Ki Utsuri Butterfly, which is not yet available.

Standard Koi - Kohaku |

The Kohaku is the most popular variety of koi, (aka Nishikigoi). There is even an expression, "Koi avocation begins and ends with Kohaku." The color combination of red and white is simple and bold, with a seemingly universal appeal for beginner and seasoned enthusiasts alike. The intensity and tone of the colors is important, equally so for both red and white. The red should be deep and rich, while a bright, clean white is most desirable.

Standard Koi - Sanke |
Sanke koi display red, white and black colors. Their red and white pattern is similiar to Kohaku overlaid with black spots. Black is the least prominent color on Sanke and is not present on the head. |
Standard Koi - Yamabuki Ogon |
Ogon koi come in shades of cream to gold, with Yamabuki Ogon always being yellow. This is the most popular koi in the Ogon group. Ogons are metallics, which means their fins are a thick, solid color. Their head should have a good metallic sheen. They also have a distinct head shape, with a dolphin appearance to the face. |
