Coneflowers As Cuts

Coneflowers make excellent cut flowers, lasting well over a week. The new colors in coneflowers is opening up enormous possibilities for the cut flower market. Coneflowers arranged with asiatic and oriental lilies make beautiful bouquets. Watch this site in June and July to see some bouquets cut from our potted perennials. Gardeners are going to want to leave a few echinacea stems go to seed. The seeds of this perennial are especially prized by the goldfinch, its amazing how they can find them.

Echinacea 'Coconut Lime'PPAF is a double flowering, white coneflower. This great addition to the already fantastic lineup of coneflowers has been well received.  It is a full, double white coneflower with a lime green center,surrounded by a bright white row of petals.

Echinacea 'Pink Double Delight'PPAF
'Pink Double Delight' PPAF is indeed what the name implies. This delightful, double pink flowering coneflower only reaches 24" high and 24" wide. The full, cone-shaped center is a rich, pink color. Each flower is surrounded by a row of normal size flower petals. This plant is great in the landscape and excellent as a cut flower.

Echinacea 'Summer Sky' PPAF
Echinacea 'Summer Sky' PPAF has peachy pink flower petals surrounding an orange cone. The flowers are 4" in diameter and fragrant. This echinacea reaches 36" high and 24" wide. It is one of many new colors in coneflowers. 'Summer Sky' PPAF is an excellent landscape plant and cut flower.

Echinacea 'Sundown' PPAF is a peachy, mango colored flower. It's 30" tall with 4-5" diameter flowers. The plant has wonderful, wide, puckered leaves. The good branching habit and bud count make this another good landscape plant. As a cut flower, the uses are endless.

Echinacea 'Sunrise' PPAF

Echinacea 'Sunrise' PPAF is a wonderful new coneflower. Two feet high and two feet across, this plant covers itself with 4" wide, yellow flowers that fade to white. When planted in mass, this coneflower is hands down the best. It flowers from June to frost if cut back. In August the cones will have ripened seed, and still be flowering with new buds all on the same plant. This plant in mass adds a soft, delicate color to the garden. The faded white flowers soften the color of the fresh, yellow flowers. Then add the goldfinches that feast on the seeds later in the season, and you have a Monet picture perfect planting. This coneflower, more than any other is destined to be a classic.
